Blue Bottle Cafe, Linden Street, San Francisco
There are two examples I've seen of garage storefront architecture lately. This Blue Bottle Cafe is on Linden Street in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. The other one is Vega Cafe on Folsom Street in San Francisco's SOMA. This one is beautifully designed and engages the street with texture, color, planting -- all the way to the corner. Notice the overhead door is built of translucent panels that overhand the sidewalk and provides shelter from the rain for customers. Its important here as the service bar is fairly close to the sidewalk. Greaat coffee AND a spatial delight. A hidden treasure, indeed.
